This novel tells the story of Christopher, the inheritor of the Feathered Stone, a magical talisman that he has seen work miracles of power and compassion. But with the magical stone in his own hands, he knows only the frustration of possessing a power of goodness that he cannot use. Filled with both wonder and anger, Christopher journeys to the fabled Mountain of God to find the purpose of this powerless glory. Along the way, he finds friendship and enemies, contradictory philosophies, and temptations to despair. In the end, he discovers that there is no answer even in the answer he must finally accept.
On one level, this book is the tale of a pious, but frustrated philosopher. On another level, it is a philosophical allegory in which various reasons for suffering and responses to evil must be faced seriously, even if unsatisfactorily.
Christopher’s Journey is yet another self-published book available at lulu.com. It costs about $15.
