As the Waters Cover the Sea
Heart of the heartless
Calling in darkness
Its calm contradictions of the soul.
In their cold cry for redeeming,
Bold sorrow their seeming,
Lies choke the blaspheming
Of the sinner’s unweakened control.
Sinners lamenting,
Pointless repenting
Of souls never what they’re meant to be,
Till the heart may be filled with the knowledge of God
As the waters cover the sea.
Holiness urging
Rolling and surging
This wild, gentle hunger for the day.
Do they pray for passions abating,
Stay patient and waiting,
Hopes dies and rise hating
The silent, unchanging delay.
Daylight is dreary,
Conscience grows weary
Of the struggles and fears of being free,
Till the heart may be filled with the knowledge of God
As the waters cover the sea.
Voice of illusion lies in our love,
Hopeless confusion, hope from above.
Life in creation, death in the Fall,
Savior who lives through them all.
Mercy in motion,
Love’s endless ocean
Again let the mercy come to me,
That my heart may be filled with the knowledge of God
As the waters cover the sea.
